A lot of times I think the character of Jesus is discounted on account of our sin. It seems normal to us, that a perfect person would want nothing to do with us when we are in are lowest state….rock bottom, if you will.
This passage re-assures me that the filth of my life doesn’t disqualify me from God’s grace as much as it actually qualifies me for it.
When it made sense for Jesus to sleep in for a while and go about his normal routine, the text says that Jesus was up at dawn appearing again in the temple courts. Setting himself up to save someone.
I’m a hardcore believer in the sovereignty of God. I believe that we are where we are, doing what we are doing solely because that’s how God wants it. I have a suspicion that Jesus probably knew that morning at dawn that the woman would be brought in for judgement that day, and I have a suspicion that Jesus made it a point to make their paths cross because he knew that he would have to come through…again. It’s what he’s best at.
It’s comforting to me to know that Jesus isn’t scared of our sin, and it doesn’t catch him off guard. Instead of turning his back on us in our lowest times, he actually sets himself up to save his people.
Dang, that’s real.
In other news, my new friend Jay had a great post yesterday (as always). Check him out. He’s well worth your read.
You know what I really like about this passage?
Jesus meets us where we are. He didn’t send for that woman to come meet Him on the mountain. He came to where she would be.
That’s one of so many aspects of the beauty of His Grace!
thanks for the shout out, grant! looking forward to connecting soon.
