In my journey through the Psalms, I’ve come across a lot of stuff that I’ve read through so many times, but for some reason, this time around….has taken on a whole new meaning. Here goes…
In Psalm 24:
Specifically 3-6: ”Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? Those who have clean hands and a pure heart, who do not put their trust in an idol or swear by a false god. They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.”
What got me was the whole “put their trust in an idol or swear by a false god” part.
Since I’ve got to camp here @ Crossroads, I’ve had a few revelations. One of them is that I’ve been committing the sin of idolatry for a long time, and haven’t even realized it. As I look back over the past year or so I’ve realized that there are a few things…..specific jobs, people, and such that I’ve looked to and put in a higher place than I have ever put Christ. I’ve given certain things a higher esteem than Jesus, and that’s a sin. And to top it off, these people and places are all within the works of the ministry. Not saying that these things are bad, but when they have a higher place than Jesus, well…it’s a sin.
What I’ve learned is to have the proper perspective on these things. Ministry is not a destination, it’s a way of life.
I’m trying to become better at this, which is hard for me, because I have big dreams for my life, but they can’t be bigger and more important than my walk with Christ.
What idols do you have in your life?
One of the best, most truthful things that I have needed to hear for a long time too. Good blog man. Hope camp is going good.
